Working on a treadmill desk sounds like a great way to get work and exercise done at the same time. However, there are things to consider. Safety first. A good 8-10 inches of clearance is needed on any side. Get measurements of the treadmill before purchasing. Tiled flooring is best, but you can use it on a carpet with a mat to protect from wear or heat from the treadmill. Outside isn’t a good idea. Weather adversely affects the performance and longevity.

Solid footing and good foot support prevents injuries. Get a good pair of shoes, nothing with a slick sole. No heels, sandals, bare feet, or in socks. Avoid wide pant legs or long skirts that might get caught up in the treadmill. Wear clothing, particularly pants, which allow for non-restrictive movement…

Fitness doesn’t begin and end at the gym. Most of what composes our body really happens when we eat.

The Covid-quarantine forced people out of gyms and into their kitchens. Sit down restaurants be-came take-out, whether we wanted it to or not. Studies showed that without buses to catch and office buildings to walk between in the course of daily life, people were walking roughly 1,000 steps less per day in March.

With our normal routines broken, we should consider this an opportunity to examine the nutrition and calories of the food making its way into our bodies. Without group parties, travel, and off-site events, we’re more in control than ever before…

When events disrupt our routine, we’re left struggling to maintain our weight, stay healthy, and meet fitness goals. For example, during the Covid19 pandemic, gyms closed to keep people safe. While necessary, these changes left people searching for new ways to incorporate fitness into their daily lives.

First, consider what you want to accomplish. If it’s weight control, the most significant contributor is to control your diet, ensuring you consume the proper number of calories compared to what you burn. Try not to lose weight too quickly, which can be unhealthy. Sometimes all it takes is an accurate scale and small dietary changes to gradually gain or take-off weight.

 ‘TIS the season to be healthy! The holidays are here once again: the parties, the work events, and the family gatherings with late nights, early mornings, decadent food, desserts, and drinks. Some of us just can’t wait. The rest of us may be in panic mode, thinking about how we can maintain our fitness goals during the holidays. We can do it. There are ways we can still maintain our goals and yet have a good ‘ole time during the holidays.

Don’t stress. It’s time to ‘fest’. The following are helpful tips to help you maintain fitness goals during the holidays:

1. Create Healthy Habits  Let’s try to follow a regular routine of proper exercise and sleep. Though it might be tempting to stay up late every night to watch our favorite movie or to celebrate with family and friends, we still have to get enough sleep. It has been found through various studies that lack of sleep can be associated with weight gain.  Set goals that are attainable, realistic, and specific and then follow through.
